On Wednesday and Thursday, April 13-14, 2016, the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC) met to hear agency updates from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Presentations and discussions included methods for improving the effectiveness/efficiency of CLIAC meetings; an overview of the CMS Advisory Panel on Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory Tests; laboratory interoperability, including the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) policies and engagement with clinical laboratories; and an update on laboratory biosafety in clinical laboratories.
